Pole Vault

Pole vault as a sport developed from a tradition of using poles for crossing streams. It is now an closely contested athletic sport with the goal of crossing high barriers.

There was the game of high jump, and now there is the game of long jump. As the name suggests, in this game, the players attempt to cover the farthest possible distance by jumping.

Trying to overcome problems and difficulties is called crossing the "hurdles". There's an athletic event, which is literally based on that concept. Interestingly, the sport is called "hurdles" or "hurdle race"

It is physically impossible for a player to sustain a sprint for more than 35 seconds. Beyond that, one's stamina and endurance goes for a toss. A sport in which the players cover a distance longer than a sprint, but short enough to cover a flat-out run, is the "middle distance"

Men have been dashing about since the ancient times. Prehistoric men ran to catch their prey and to avoid being preyed upon. Speed always had an immense value in survival. As a result, sprint, or running as a sport, is ancient.
